Endometriosis treatment – ​​can CBD help?

Endometriosis is a disease that affects approximately 15% of women around the world - and although this number is really high, no effective drug or therapy has yet been developed. Women can only minimize the painful and unpleasant effects, but most of the available methods affect their health in other ways. So is there a natural remedy that helps fight endometriosis? If CBD can help?

What is endometriosis? 

Although it occurs in over 170 million women, little is known about where it comes from and how it develops. One of the reasons is considered to be, among others: "retrograde menstruation", but also the woman's age, genetic conditions, lifestyle or having children - probably after giving birth, the risk of endometriosis decreases. 

Endometriosis is a condition in which tissue inside the uterus, called endometrium, is found in places in a woman's body outside her uterus. It then causes caution inflammation, which causes a number of disturbing and bothersome symptoms. It can develop not only on the ovaries or fallopian tubes, but also in other parts of the body.

What are the symptoms of endometriosis? 

The most common symptoms of endometriosis include: 

  • sharp pain that appears in various places
  • painful and heavy periods
  • extra-menstrual bleeding
  • ovarian cysts
  • pain during intercourse
  • hematuria
  • ovarian cysts
  • problems getting pregnant
  • digestive disorders
  • flatulence and diarrhea

Can endometriosis be treated? 

Unfortunately, to date, no effective method of preventing and treating endometriosis has been established. Available therapies are designed to alleviate the symptoms and effects of the disease and help the patient in everyday functioning. The effectiveness of the therapy depends on the stage of endometriosis advancement - depending on this, pharmacological therapy or other, more invasive methods are introduced, e.g. laparoscopy, which inhibits or removes the inflammatory foci caused by the disease.

Available methods of treating endometriosis

There are still not many methods to support patients with endometriosis in their daily lives. Doctors may most often suggest pharmacological treatment - painkillers and hormonal contraception. In more extreme cases, treatment is performed using laparoscopy or - when the patient is not planning a pregnancy - bilateral removal of the ovaries and uterus can also be performed.
