It is already known that CBD has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, but research is still ongoing on further properties of the substance. It turns out that the cannabinoid CBD may also be effective in treating nausea.
CBD and nausea
Research on the effectiveness of CBD in the fight against nausea is at an advanced stage, but has not yet been conducted on humans. However, recent animal studies show promising results. Vomiting and nausea were significantly reduced in CBD-treated mice. Standard antiemetics most often only relieve nausea rather than eliminating it completely. the combination of CBD and THC may be helpful in this case
One study found that Sativex (a cannabinoid drug containing a combination of THC and CBD ) when taken in combination with other anti-emetic therapies completely eliminated nausea and vomiting in some patients.
It is worth noting, however, that according to some scientists, when taking CBD, it is crucial to select the appropriate dose of the substance. If you take too much of the preparation, the effect may be opposite to the intended one, which, combined with other side effects, may lead to nausea.
The endocannabinoid system
The existence of the endocannabinoid system (ECS) has been observed in all vertebrates, which is responsible for regulating key life functions, such as sleep, appetite and pain. The human body is able to independently produce chemical compounds that modulate and activate its functions, but thanks to the endocannabinoid system, the same role can be played by cannabinoids found in the hemp plant.
The ECS was discovered only 30 years ago, and scientists still have a lot to learn about the myriad ways cannabis can influence the function of human receptors. It turns out that the endocannabinoid system is also responsible for the feeling of nausea.
How does CBD work for nausea?
We still do not have extensive knowledge on this subject, and there is still a lot of research ahead of us, but tests conducted on animals have allowed us to shed some light on the effect of CBD on the functioning of the endocannabinoid system in the case of nausea. In people suffering from motion sickness, lower values of the endocannabinoids anandamide and 2-AG the human body
These patients also had fewer CB1 receptors, one of the main receptors in the endocannabinoid system. However, the induction of motion sickness with parabolic flight maneuvers led to an early increase in anandamide and a later increase in 2-AG. So it's safe to assume that the entire system is actively involved in helping fight nausea.
