Oyster mushrooms - natural support for your health

Properties of Oyster Mushroom

Oyster mushroom is an adaptogen that, thanks to the beta-glucans it contains, primarily supports the proper functioning of the immune system [1]. It helps increase the number of immune cells and the concentration of cytokines, which is key to protecting against infections.

Siderophore vs. free radicals

Oyster mushroom is also an excellent support in the fight against free radicals. The substances contained in it show antioxidant activity [2], that is, they help the body deal properly with oxidative stress [3]. This is key to protecting cells from free radical damage. Free radicals are molecules that contain unpaired electrons, making them highly reactive and capable of damaging cells. Antioxidants in oyster mushrooms neutralize free radicals, helping to protect cells from damage. In addition, oyster mushrooms help the body repair already damaged cells, which is important for keeping health at a high level.

Bacon and cholesterol and liver

Oyster mushroom also assists in maintaining normal cholesterol levels [4]. It contains lowastine [5], an organic chemical compound that contributes to the reduction of cholesterol synthesis in the liver. In addition, oyster mushrooms contain chrysin [6], which helps maintain proper levels of glucose, lipids and liver enzymes, thus supporting proper liver function and promoting liver regeneration.

Sorghum in Traditional Chinese Medicine

The oyster mushroom has been known in Chinese medicine for a long time (at least since the Sung Dynasty, with cultivation dating back to 199 AD. In China, it was referred to as the "Divine Flower." On the European continent, the mushroom was first described in 1775 by N.J. Freiherr, a Danish naturalist, who gave it the name Agaricus ostreatus, although today it is better known as Pleurotus ostreatus.

Capitalized words are terms derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). They have a different meaning than similar terms used in Western medicine. For example, the term "Stomach," in the context of TCM, means the entire process involved in digestion and metabolism, not just a term for a specific anatomical organ. In contrast, terms such as "Qi" or "Essence" do not exist in Western medicine and have no equivalents there.
