Shiitake - the natural way to a healthy lifestyle
Shiitake - the most important properties
Shiitake mushrooms, also known as Japanese sclerotia, are one of nature's most valuable treasures. They belong to the group of so-called superfoods, or food products with exceptional nutritional and health-promoting properties [1]. Shiitake mushrooms are rich in many essential components such as amino acids in an ideal combination for human needs [2] and polysaccharides, including lentinan, which supports the proper functioning of the immune system [3].
Shiitake and the immune system
Shiitake mushrooms are a source of extremely valuable components that support our health on various levels. Thanks to their polysaccharide content, including lentinan, they have the ability to support the immune system [3]. Lentinan stimulates the activity of white blood cells, which supports the body in the fight against infections and strengthens its natural defense mechanisms [4].
How do shiitake mushrooms support digestion?
Shiitake mushrooms contain enzymes, such as amylase and cellulase, which support the digestive system. They help break down starch and cellulose, which facilitates digestion and nutrient absorption. In addition, substances in shiitake stimulate the growth of probiotic bifidobacteria and lactobacilli, which positively affects the intestinal bacterial flora [2]. Balanced intestinal flora is an essential condition for maintaining health.
Japanese heartwood and liver health
Shiitake (Japanese hardwood) also supports proper liver function, helping to detoxify the body [7]. The liver plays a key role in managing cholesterol in the body: it is responsible for its production, processing and removal of excess cholesterol from the blood. The aforementioned lentinan aids in the removal of toxins, which is beneficial for people struggling with acne and skin problems, often resulting from a polluted and malfunctioning liver.
Effect of shiitake on cholesterol levels
Another very important field of action of Japanese sclerotia is to support the proper functioning of the circulatory system [5]. Of particular importance here is, present in the mushroom, eritadenine, which supports the maintenance of normal blood cholesterol levels [6]. Persistent, excessively high cholesterol levels can lead to numerous cardiovascular problems, caused by blocked flow in arteries and veins.
Shiitake - mushroom power of harmony!
The functional fungus Lentinula edodes will be recommended to anyone who:

The optimal 30% concentration of polysaccharides is perfectly absorbed by the body. This concentration simultaneously allows the mushroom to take advantage of other positive properties of the mushroom such as vitamins and minerals.

Capitalized words are terms derived from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). They have a different meaning than similar terms used in Western medicine. For example, the term "Stomach," in the context of TCM, means the entire process involved in digestion and metabolism, not just a term for a specific anatomical organ. In contrast, terms such as "Qi" or "Essence" do not exist in Western medicine and have no equivalents there.
