The most important properties of the herb

Sage is one of the most widely used medicinal plants. It is a sub-shrub that occurs naturally in the Mediterranean region, but is a cultivated species in Europe.

The medicinal raw material are sage leaves, which contain a large amount of essential oils. The main ingredients of the oil are: thujone, cineole, camphor, borneol and pinene. It also contains bitter diterpene lactones such as carnosol, carnosolic acid, rosmanol, catechin tannins and flavonoids : derivatives of apigenin and luteolin. Sage leaves contain B and C vitamins in smaller amounts.

Active compounds contained in sage affect the adrenal cortex, inhibiting the secretion of glucocorticoids and regulating sweat secretion.
