The cannabinoid CBN is a byproduct of THC degradation. However, contrary to what you might think, that doesn't mean it loses its properties - quite the opposite. You may find that CBN is the cannabinoid you've been looking for. Find out why!
What is the CBN?
Cannabiol (CBN) is formed when THC ages - a byproduct of its degradation. THC ages in significant amounts and naturally converts to CBN (as much as 25% per year).
Sometimes CBN also manages to be produced when THC is heated to high temperatures, such as during smoking. And although a cannabinoid resulting from the aging process of another substance doesn't sound very appealing, many people choose to consume just CBN. All thanks to the vast number of medicinal benefits of taking it.
Operation of the CBN
Like other known cannabinoids, CBN has shown health-promoting and therapeutic effects. Studies have shown that regular intake of the substance can stimulate appetite, relieve glaucoma and act as a potent antibiotic, which makes sense given its close relationship to THC.
There are also extensive ongoing action research CBN to aid treatment in people with ALS. In one project, researchers were able to delay the onset of ALS in mice using CBN, but tests must first be conducted on a research group of humans to confirm this theory.
CBN vs THC
CBN users speak of its sedative effects, but there are not yet many scientific studies to support these observations. Pure CBN does not appear to have a sedative effect, but when combined with THC it can take on such properties. It is considered that the combination of THC and CBN is an excellent combination for people struggling with insomnia.
